Learning through play
We believe that children all learn by trying. Our team at KidActive encourage all of the children in our care to explore and wonder. We take the time to get to know your children and find things that interest them. We work hard to create experiences that teach and create amazing memories of fun experiences and friends.
Dramatic Play and Steam
Many of the ways that we encourage growth is through games and experiences that help encourage imagination, friendship building, and expansion of ideas. There is on most days at least one station that is steam oriented. We also have one station that is coloring, painting or play dough. Many of our games come from stories we have read that we have been talking about. We have a ton of fun dressing up after a good book and bringing out our classroom instruments.
How we learn
A lot of what we do is working with social and emotional development. We work on helping the children to listen and follow directions to play games, we work on sitting for certain periods of time to do art and listen to a book. We talk to them all the time about what they like and encourage them to ask their friends questions. We take the time to give them hugs and listen to what they have to say. The children here do learn colors, shapes, numbers and letters along with how to hold a pencil and scissor but our main focus is to help them know how to learn and feel more confident when they go do kindergarten.
Conscious Discipline
We are a part of a program called Concious Discipline. We work right from the beginning with every child to help them feel safe and connected. Learning about feelings and emotions is a big part of our curriculum at KidActive. We teach this through different activities, examples, play-acting and lower child-to-teacher ratios so we can help these special people learn to navigate their social-emotional growth and development.
The best part of all, the children are playing and having fun. They learn best by having a good time and exploring and wondering.
Food and Rest
We are a part of the USDA food program and work hard to create fun healthy meals. We believe that it is important to try different textures and types of food to help children understand what they like and do not like. We ask for a no thank you bite at each meal if they are not excited about a food. We work hard to have something on the plate that every child will like. Food confidence and comfy tummies go a long way to helping a child feel safe and connected. During meals we encourage friendship and connection, talking about different things and have a good time.
Rest is also very important at KidActive, we keep the children very active physically and mentally through the day. We have a rest/nap time that starts at 12:00 and can depending on the child go to 2:45. If everyone is not awake at 2:45 we wake them up and have a healthy snack.
The right amount of rest and food can make a huge difference in how children learn and play.
