Social Emotional growth and development
Through our program we have implemented many strategies to help children manage their emotional growth and develpement. We help them to learn to listen to their peers and adults and to make good choices. Through these strategies they will create stronger friendship bonds that are more secure and they will be able to have a much better time while playing and learning.
Toddlers - 1 year to 3 years
All of the children learn the same curriculum but it is taught differently depending on their developmental age. For toddlers we start at the basics, and allow them to develop their knowledge and understanding at their pace. A teacher is always present and assisting them if needed, but we encourage experimentation and free thought.
Miss Sadie works mainly with this group during the stations time and art time to help them with other teachers help when needed. She has a talent for notice and wonder with this age group that really pulls them to new experiences and learning.
preschool and Pre K - 3 years to 5 years old
This class is 3 to 5 years of age. We do pull the pre kindergarten students aside several times a week for more direct learning with kindergarten skills that are not needed with the younger children. Other than that this group works together amazingly. They help support each other and learning happens faster with them together. The older kids help the younger kids learn the stations and they learn new things through helping their younger friends. The young ones love the older kiddos and are more apt to follow the intended plan with the curriculum. Peers really do make all the difference. There is usually end goals with mind blowing understandings that then expand into more questions and expansion at the end of the lessons.
Miss Sonya is mainly involved during learning time. If we see learning and excitement we try to catch hold of it and see where it goes. Often the intended lesson goes in fun and surprising directions. If children are interested in specific things like for instance dinosaurs we try to integrate that into our lessons to help our students develop a love of learning early.
Different activities for different children
Every child has different interests, we try to keep several different activities out at a time to allow students to try new things, but also to cultivate each child’s interests. We often have out at least three activity stations at one time and encourage them to try them all. There is always a quiet place for a kiddo to relax if they are done with activities.
Rest time is essential
At KidActive we play and learn a lot, rest time is encouraged so that the children will have as much fun in the afternoon as they did in the morning. We provide foam sleeping mats. Each child has their own box with a lid, a pillow and a blanket that we diligently wash. We also make sure the mats are sanitized.
